Who we are...
Having grown up in India's commercial capital, Mumbai, Jehan yearned for nature and the outdoors. In 1997, a twist of fate brought him to train as a naturalist in Kanha. He never left. Five years later, Katie arrived from England seeking an immersive, cultural, Indian experience - she got it! Together we created Shergarh, our first baby! Our two children, Kai and Ella shortly followed. Shergarh has grown into our family home, and has evolved as a great little wildlife camp, with friends and travellers visiting us from all corners of the globe.
We are very proud of our local team! We began Shergarh with just a few members from the village who helped us build camp. In those days there was very little tourism in Kanha, so they had no idea what the camp would be like when it was finished and operating. That same group stayed on and have now flourished into a wonderful team of 15 men and women, who confidently run most aspects of the camp's daily operations. The people of Kanha are extremely gentle, you will feel very humbled and nurtured in their presence.
We are fortunate to have two talented naturalists with us: Rajan Gurung (Raj), an exceptional individual with extensive knowledge and great command. Raj joined us from Nepal in 2005. His early training at Tiger Tops included tracking tiger on foot which tuned his senses to a level that sets you up for a very rewarding safari. Son Singh Ayam joined us in 2009. He grew up on his father's elephant here in Kanha and loves this forest passionately. He will introduce you to sacred trees while regaling you with local legends. Son Singh has a particularly keen eye for light and photography.
